Engagement type: independent consultant / contract, part-time (~20 hours/week)

Duration: 4–6 month mandate

Location: remote; Quebec-based candidates preferred

Start date: immediate

Reports to: VP of human resources

We are looking for a senior instructional design consultant to design and build a suite of leadership development  and soft skills training content. This is a part-time, fixed-term mandate that combines strategic learning design with  hands-on content development. The ideal candidate operates as a hybrid between a learning and development  consultant and a production-focused instructional designer, comfortable advising on approach as well as building  the final deliverables.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments and translate leadership competencies and soft skills into clear, measurable learning objectives

  • Design learning solutions using a scaffolded, microlearning-first approach that breaks complex leadership topics into modular, sequenced units that build on one another

  • Develop eLearning content in a format compatible with our LMS, TalentLMS: SCORM 1.2 or xAPI (Experience API) packages; the authoring tool used is flexible, as long as the final export meets this requirement

  • Produce microlearning videos and other short-format digital assets

  • Design live and virtual training decks and facilitator session materials

  • Facilitate live sessions where the consultant is comfortable and available to do so

  • Apply instructional design best practices across the full lifecycle: analysis, design, development, and evaluation (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, or an equivalent model)

  • Build in formative and summative assessments, and design evaluation approaches that go beyond reaction and completion metrics toward behavior application where possible

  • Ensure content is accessible and inclusive (e.g., captioning, readable structure, alt text) and consistent with adult learning principles

  • Adhere to our existing brand and style guidelines across all decks, videos, and eLearning content

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject-matter experts to validate content accuracy and relevance

  • Participate in review and approval cycles with the HR leadership team (three members)

  • Manage own workback schedule and deliverables against the mandate timeline, with regular check-ins

Required qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in instructional design, with a strong portfolio in leadership development and/or soft skills training

  • Demonstrated experience designing microlearning and using scaffolding techniques to build skill progression

  • Hands-on experience building SCORM 1.2 or xAPI-compliant packages and working within an LMS (TalentLMS experience an asset)

  • Ability to export and render content in SCORM 1.2 or xAPI format regardless of the authoring tool used

  • Experience producing or overseeing microlearning video content

  • Strong grounding in adult learning theory and instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Bloom's taxonomy, etc.)

  • Ability to design polished live-training and facilitator materials

  • Strong verbal communication and live facilitation skills

  • Excellent written communication and content development skills

  • Comfortable working within an established brand and style guide

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work autonomously in a part-time, remote consulting capacity

  • Bilingual in English and Canadian French: a strong asset

Tools

  • A license for iSpring will be provided for this mandate

  • Consultants using other authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate) must hold their own license

Nice to have

  • ATD or equivalent instructional design certification (e.g., CPTD, APTD), or a degree in instructional design, learning design, or a related field

  • Experience with competency mapping and competency-based content architecture

  • Familiarity with accessibility and UDL standards in eLearning

  • Prior consulting experience with corporate clients on leadership or people-manager programs

  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Greek): an asset

Deliverables

  • Suite of SCORM 1.2 or xAPI-compliant microlearning modules, tested and functional in TalentLMS

  • Library of microlearning videos

  • Facilitator-ready live training decks and session plans

  • Supporting assessment and evaluation materials

Governance

  • Reports directly to the VP of human resources
Content reviewed and approved through the HR leadership team (three members)
